'E C U M E N I C A L  B A L A N C E  II'

Kibble Palace, Botanic Gardens

February 2017

This sculpture is a development of my interest in shape, balance and symbolism. The form of an equilateral triangle is present everywhere, from physical structures; whether that be natural or manmade, to molecular shapes.

There are twelve identical steel flat bars here welded at a 60 degree angles to form four separate equilateral triangles. Each is then mounted and secured at random to each other to create the sculpture. This work looks at the conceptual relationship between the physical and the non physical. Accuracies in the four shapes such as balance and strength are derived from mathematics. This contrasts with the randomness of each triangles placing within the overall sculpture. Here, I am aiming to find a reliable calmness in an unpredicted world"
